1. NEVER STARTING
When is the perfect time to start? NOW! Go. Seriously, right now. Don’t even read the next four mistakes until you’ve at least walked to the mailbox and back.
2. INAPPROPRIATE GOAL SETTING
Even if you’re a seasoned athlete (maybe especially if…) be sure to set attainable goals. Writing them down always helps but be realistic about what you can accomplish in your busy life but don’t make your busy life an excuse (see mistake #1).
3. NOT EATING BREAKFAST
It truly IS the most important meal of the day and please don’t tell me you’re not hungry when you wake-up…just EAT! Start with something small that has protein in it even if it’s in bar form. Read the label to be sure there’s a glimmer of nutritional value and then start your engine!
4. HAVING THE WRONG SHOES
Investing in a good pair of sneakers that are made for your body type and the exercising you will be doing is extremely important. Trust me, whatever quality sneaker you buy will be cheaper then the knee surgery or physical therapy you will need if you have the wrong shoes.
5. NOT HAVING FUN
Yes, exercise is hard but chose something you actually enjoy doing! From running, to Zumba to biking and yoga; there’s something out there for everyone! Don’t do something because you think you should or because your friend does it. The BEST exercise is the one you’re going to DO so pick something you like at least a little and you’re more likely to stick with it.
Now get out there and start sweating!
Good tips! I find myself never setting goals — if I did, I think I’d be more dedicated to my plan.
Thanks Michelle! For me it has always helped to set attainable goals. Glad you find it helpful…let me know how it works out…:-)
Great tips for sure! I definitely think having the goal thing is huge…that is something that I predetermined before summer began so I can have an actual plan! :)-Ashley
Thanks Ashley! Having a summer plan in place by Spring is always a good idea!!
I was very guilty of #3. I would never eat breakfast. But after I started exercising everyday, I eat that breakfast.
Heather – Isn’t it funny how that happens? Start your engine!!:-)
I totally made mistake #1 all last week. And I can feel it. Thanks for the reminder to get moving!
Stopping in from SITS. These are some wonderful tips! Especially the one about attainable goals! When I first began my journey, I didn’t have any goals. Now that I do, I find that I keep myself more accountable in trying to reach them.
Welcome fellow SITS Girl! Yes, goals are great way to keep yourself on track…& you can sometimes surprise yourself with how much you can do. Thanks for stopping by!
