Since I truly enjoy so many of my running workouts and really enjoy shaving some time off of a personal best, I’m combining the two for your reading and running enjoyment.
Obviously the beginner runner will see the most dramatic results but, even seasoned veterans of the sport can continue to run faster with these workouts.
As always during this time of the month, I’m teaming up with five of my most knowledgeable and experienced running blog friends to bring you a combined six favorite workouts. Think of these as Oprah’s favorite things of the running world.
Everybody gets…a shiny new PR!…and lots of blood, sweat and tears.
You’re welcome. Don’t say we never gave you anything for the holidays.
ANGELA | HAPPY FIT MAMA
NELLIE | BROOKLYN ACTIVE MAMA
SARAH | RUN FAR GIRL
LAURA | THIS RUNNER’S RECIPES
CARLY | FINE FIT DAY
I do not recommend tackling all of these at once but maybe rationing them out as little treats during the next 8-10 weeks. When you hit that mileage goal or race PR this spring, you will know who to thank.
Have fun and train smart!
What is your favorite running workout?
What is your favorite thing this time of year?
We are so like Oprah this month!! Lol. Love this time of the month to share the run love. So can you promise I’ll run as fast as you and become a tri super star with your workouts? 🙂
I promise that if you get into the pool and start swimming, you will PR your next race within 6 months because your VO2 will go though the roof!!
All of these workouts look awesome, thanks for sharing. Winter is a great time to put in workouts because there aren’t many big races out there.
Totally! I’m sure you have plenty of favorites to share… Thanks Hollie.
I love me a tempo. Largely because my legs don’t turnover at all anymore, and I’m too lazy to fix that (no race on the schedule, and all that). Love these super helpful workouts!
Tempo are really the best, aren’t they? I also love how you have no race schedule although I’m not sure how long that will last 🙂
Where was this taking 10 minutes off my finish time thingy when I needed it? LOL. Guess I’m just winging it this weekend… :p
There’s always the Spring Wendy!
I hope you’re someplace sunny and warm…:-)
Dude when I saw your graphic, I was like OK Allie taking her game to the next level with this infographic! SO good!! Loved this weeks link up!
LOL! The funny part is that I’m totally slacking!! I made that graphic a while ago for another post I did at Run to the Finish!! So glad I’m pulling off the facade! 🙂
I haven’t done a tough workout/run in weeks! Now that Callum doesn’t nap anymore, I can’t get on the treadmill for my tempo runs. I’d bring him to the gym but a) he hates it and b) I’ll look absolutely ridiculous wailing away on the treadmill for 8 miles at 9 mph. I’d freak everyone out.
Don’t worry about the freak out. I used to do it all the time and not give one shit…I know you know that feeling 🙂 However, I’m sure you can pull speed out of nowhere pretty much any time you please.
Your speed workout looks awesomely brutal – I love speed ladders like that! Actually, I really like all of your workouts and they make me excited to train for a half again soon!
They really are my favorites because, although brutal, they make you feel unstoppable! I know you know that feeling and I hope you have it at the other end of 26.2 this weekend!!
I love your speed workout! I’ve never combined short speed intervals with half and full marathon pace miles… I want to try it!
It’s brutal but in the best way possible. I think you would love it 🙂
i am running out of room with all of your posts i keep favoriting!!! this one is awesome, i can’t wait to tackle a couple of these. i’m not training for anything, which is exciting to me because i feel in some ways that my next race will be awesome. whatever it is 🙂 thanks so much! i need to go get me a sandbag, stat!
LOL! Make some room!!
Looking forward to when you really start training for something since I think you’re doing more than most already 🙂
These are awesome! I’ve taken such a step back from runs like this I’m really looking forward to getting back to them! Thanks for the inspiration on how to get started!
I actually really like interval training. It keeps me occupied when I have to run on a treadmill!
YOU get a PR! Bwhahahaha!
I like a few of these workouts for me, the non-runner! Going to share with my daughter too – she’s running her first 5k as an adult tonight 🙂
OMG that is GREAT!!! Please tell me how it went for her. Would she dare let you write about it?? I hope so!
