I’m a huge Chris Rock fan. I especially love some of his lines from Bring The Pain way back in 1996.  In one segment he talks about how, once someone gets a G.E.D. people start telling them they should go to college. His response is basically…”slow down, it’s obvious that high school is busting my ass.”

So what does any of this have to do with a new social media platform? First of all, it’s new to me. The platform of which I speak is called Learnist and has been called the “Pinterest of learning” by the media. They were named one of the 50 Best Websites by TIME magazine in 2012. Yes, two years ago, but since they have undergone a sort of transformation in defining who they are. Let’s sort out all the fun facts, shall we?

iTunes describes Learnist like this:

Learn how to film movies from Gus Van Sant, learn how to live in the wild from survival experts, learn how to make the perfect almond butter from foodies, or learn about geometry from a real teacher.

Why is iTunes talking about Learnist? Because they just relaunched the iPad app and it’s obviously a hot commodity right now. Get it while it’s hot people!

Who else is talking about Learnist? The Huff baby:

Basically, the site is composed of “Boards” (not unlike Pinterest) with different “Learnings” attached to them (much unlike Pinterest) allowing you to scroll though briefly or, stay a while and select different links associated with a learning, to glean even more information on the topic.

How many categories are there? Tons! Sixteen to be exact with everything from How To, Education, Products, Crafts, Entertainment, Games, Technology, Food & Drink, Travel and, of course Health & Fitness.

The Learnist Home Page highlights what’s new, essentials and recommended boards. Some of my favorites include:

There are also what they call “Premium” boards written by big shots like Ariana Huffington, Gus Van Sant and Olivia Wilde. These are real posts, written by the real people, exclusively for Learnist. No regurgitated info here. Do you want life advice from Ariana Huffington? It will cost you less then a dollar, which may end up saving you thousands in therapy bills. You’re welcome.

I’m proud to say I have my very first board up on How To Race Any Distance, and my profile page is good to go as well. Won’t you be my friend out there? As you can see from the screen shots, the Learnist peeps make it easy to share across all social media platforms, as well as follow others and add to your reading list. Voila!

Yes, I’m being paid to post for Learnist. I can’t give all this out for free!
