Don’t judge me. I’m judged harshly enough when I try to take some of the most ridiculous pictures for my Instagram feed, but I do it all for you! Ok, that’s a lie. I do it for the likes and follows and ‘badass’ comments and to look back and see how truly amazing and beautiful life is.

Today’s post is a link up with my Just Run girls and how we do it all for the Insta…and you can too!

First, to answer the burning questions you may have about Instagram:

  1. Yes, I feel like a moron setting up my camera and then running back and forth, looking at the timer, to get a good shot.
  2. Yes, I often think about what photo I’m going to take while I’m doing whatever activity I have planned for the day. I have the most running photos (even though I don’t hardly ever take my phone with me on a run) and the least swim photos because, you know, water.
  3. Yes, I sometimes feel like it’s incredibly vain, but I do it anyway.

Here are some of the hardest, most fun and surprisingly epic Insta shots I have taken and how they have come to be, in no particular order.

WHEN YOU RISK YOUR LIFE

Yep. I almost killed myself on the treadmill trying to get this shot. I was so pleased that I ran 9 miles on New Year’s Day, after being out past midnight on NYE that I forgot I was not as recovered as I thought. My first thought, as I stumbled for balance was “If I hurt myself trying to take an Insta pic, it would make a hilarious Insta post.” #issues

WHEN THE GYM CLASS COMES OUT ON THE TRACK

This has happened to me a few times. I’m right at the end of a tough track session when a gym class comes out onto the infield. This particular class was playing ultimate frisbee and the goals were set up on the edge of the track. I’m sure more then one of those bastards was aiming for me as I came around but I was determined to finish, even if it meant taking a frisbee to the head! I’m pretty sure they thought I was super lame and wondered why I was there. I left wondering the same.

WHEN ANIMALS ATTACK

My dog Star was crazy enough when I was standing up so I should have known better then to try an attempt a picture of me on the ground! As soon as I set up the shot, she went in for the kill. And, as Angela pointed out — “It’s always a butt in the face!”

WHEN YOU GOT NOTHIN’

I have no less than 700 pictures of my running shoes and my body from the waist down. It’s a runner thing and kind of cheat when you either have no good scenery, no way to take a good shot or you just want to post you went for a run because God forbid people think you’re not running today. The horror.

WHEN THINGS GO HORRIBLY WRONG

This happened just recently and was hilarious. The worst part was having to set it up all over again and pretend I really wasn’t taking a photo! Why?

Sometimes I think I’ll just ask people to take ridiculous photos of me running toward them or jumping in the air for seemingly no reason and see what happens. If nothing else, I’ll get a great photo for Insta!

Now that you know all my Insta secrets, here are more from my running friends. Hopefully they actually have some advice you can use!
