As an athlete I’m always trying to get an edge – physically and mentally. As you all know, I put a lot of time and energy into my physical training, and I’ve also spent a ridiculous amount of time on my mental game. Where am I lacking? In the nutrition department. I eat extremely healthy but, when I’m training for say a world championship competition, I’ve finally realized that all the fruits and vegetables on the planet aren’t enough fuel for my aging body. Damnit!

In that vein, I’ve been treating myself like a little science experiment. Once I decided I needed to supplement my diet, I started doing some research. And by ‘research’ I mean I went to some of the top athletes I know, and asked them to spill their secrets. Both John Newman and Tina Muir didn’t hesitate to tell me about EnduroPacks. It’s good to have elite athletes as friends, isn’t it?

Here’s how EnduroPacks work:

1. A daily system of vitamins and minerals. Yes, daily.

2. You take/spray/patch the above four items though out the day. Liquid multivitamin in the morning, spray in your water during training, amino acid patch after your grueling workout, and two immunity boosting tablets before bed.

As I’ve said before, I’m pretty lazy when it comes to food preparation and the same goes for a supplement system. I have to say that at first I was all “I have to do ALL of this everyday? This is definitely something I have never done in my athletic career. I was a little wary of putting something directly on my skin and having it absorb into my body. But, I spoke with one of the great guys at the company in-depth about it, and he was able to answer all my questions and ease my concerns. The idea is to get a ‘trickle’ effect over the course of the day, instead of taking more pills. I’m all for that!

The only downsides to the patch? It’s hard to explain to your kids, and it does leave a bit of a residue on your skin that you have to scrub off. For the benefits, I think I can deal.

What are the benefits? More energy during my hour plus training sessions, and better recovery afterward. Now, I haven’t had the pleasure of feeling the effects after a hard race or competition BUT, I was able to train eight days in a row, without feeling overly sluggish, as I have in the past. That alone will have me coming back for more.
