You’re going to want to, at least once a month, when you see what I’m about to show you!

Food is fuel.  We know that, right?  I realize there are some who “fuel” as though they are running an ultra marathon and then…watch and ultra marathon of reality TV, but I’m not talking about them.  I’m talking about runners, triathletes and/or workout regulars.  We are bombarded with so much information about how to fuel, when to fuel, what to cut and what to load up on that we often end up eating the same things because it’s completely overwhelming!

On the flip side, I love to try new and different gels, GU’s, and beans while I’m training and see what sticks.  Unfortunately there’s a ton of stuff out there and none of it’s free.  Except that one time when I stole some.  KIDDING!  I had the twins do it.  Really kidding.

Imagine my delight when, last month I was flipping through Runner’s World magazine and saw an article for this:

Box of fuel anyone?

Box of fuel anyone?

A box with a sticker on it!  Eating problems, solved!  Oh, you want to know what’s IN the box?

Deliciousness...and cool stuff for sweaty people.

Deliciousness…and cool stuff for sweaty people.

Think of it as the Beer of the Month Club for healthy people.  It’s an amazing company called Runnerbox and that’s just what you get – a box of yummy treats and runner-friendly products bi-monthly for cheap!  And by cheap, I mean it’s $20/box for either a bi-monthly subscription or a one-time box for yourself or as a gift.  OMG did I just solve your Christmas gift shopping too?  You’re welcome!

Ok, I know what you’re thinking.  You don’t want to like one thing in the box and the rest of it taste like a loofah.  I’m here My husband is here to tell you that’s not the case. I’ll admit that I don’t mind loofah-tasting things, things that are bland or with lots of nuts and seeds.  The hubs?  Hates it.  You’ll recall he was my guinea pig for the EnergyBits?  Well, check this out:

I'm smiling because I'm eating healthy!

I’m smiling because I’m eating healthy!

That is a happy camper.  He’s not happy that we’re on a flight plan from hell, that’s for sure, he’s happy because just before we left for what turned out to be a 20-hour journey to Tucson, I got my Runnerbox in the mail and he’s enjoying one of the bars from that box.  I made him give me asked for a bite and it was delicious!

Made with real VT honey people! Come on!

Made with real VT honey and saving gorillas! Does food get better then this?  I think not.

Wait.  There’s more!  I know, I know, it’s so exciting!  On top of all the delicious bars, granola, energy chews and  sea salt chickpeas, you also get an assortment of athlete friendly items.  Here’s the additional stuffI got this month:

– hairbands that double as bracelets (I obviously need these badly with my flowing locks!)

– a massage ball for your feet and hands (the Due North Foot Rubz)

– blister shields

– Salt stick caps (basically electrolyte uppers)

– tons of cards for discounted items you will actually use like sunglasses, fitness jewelry, sneakers, etc.

I don’t want to bore you with a complete list of everything but there’s a ton of stuff and a lot of it is name brand like Cliff Bars, Jelly Bean Sport Beans and Quest Bars.

Another perk?  About a week after receiving the box, I got an email with more discount codes on some of the other items (like the gorilla-saving bars) in the box.  You know I already ordered a dozen.

Here’s some other interesting things:

– You can pick a “runner” box, “triathlete” box or just a good old fashioned “gift” box

– You can mark products on a wish list on the site (http://www.therunnerbox.com)

– Purchase virtual gift cards

– There’s a GLUTEN FREE box for all you wheat haters out there

There’s really nothing left to say or do except to give you this code for your 10% off discount!  BOOM!

 RUNALLIERB

I’ll leave you with the quote that was stickered onto the inside of my Runnerbox:

Ability is what you are capable of doing.

Motivation determines what you do.

Attitude determines how well you do it.

That pretty much says it all.  Fuel up my friends!

Runnerbox Ambassador Badge

A word for the lawyers: I paid in full for my Runnerbox bi-monthly subscription and was then selected as a Runnerbox Ambassador by applying to the program.  I was given a discount code for my personal use and just realized it expired this past Sunday.  Therefore, because I’m a moron, I was given zero compensation for this post.

Have you ever subscribed to an “anything” of the month club?  How do you chose your pre-workout meals?  What are your favorites to fuel up with?
