You’re going to want to, at least once a month, when you see what I’m about to show you!
Food is fuel. We know that, right? I realize there are some who “fuel” as though they are running an ultra marathon and then…watch and ultra marathon of reality TV, but I’m not talking about them. I’m talking about runners, triathletes and/or workout regulars. We are bombarded with so much information about how to fuel, when to fuel, what to cut and what to load up on that we often end up eating the same things because it’s completely overwhelming!
On the flip side, I love to try new and different gels, GU’s, and beans while I’m training and see what sticks. Unfortunately there’s a ton of stuff out there and none of it’s free. Except that one time when I stole some. KIDDING! I had the twins do it. Really kidding.
Imagine my delight when, last month I was flipping through Runner’s World magazine and saw an article for this:
A box with a sticker on it! Eating problems, solved! Oh, you want to know what’s IN the box?
Think of it as the Beer of the Month Club for healthy people. It’s an amazing company called Runnerbox and that’s just what you get – a box of yummy treats and runner-friendly products bi-monthly for cheap! And by cheap, I mean it’s $20/box for either a bi-monthly subscription or a one-time box for yourself or as a gift. OMG did I just solve your Christmas gift shopping too? You’re welcome!
Ok, I know what you’re thinking. You don’t want to like one thing in the box and the rest of it taste like a loofah. I’m here My husband is here to tell you that’s not the case. I’ll admit that I don’t mind loofah-tasting things, things that are bland or with lots of nuts and seeds. The hubs? Hates it. You’ll recall he was my guinea pig for the EnergyBits? Well, check this out:
That is a happy camper. He’s not happy that we’re on a flight plan from hell, that’s for sure, he’s happy because just before we left for what turned out to be a 20-hour journey to Tucson, I got my Runnerbox in the mail and he’s enjoying one of the bars from that box. I made him give me asked for a bite and it was delicious!
Wait. There’s more! I know, I know, it’s so exciting! On top of all the delicious bars, granola, energy chews and sea salt chickpeas, you also get an assortment of athlete friendly items. Here’s the additional stuffI got this month:
– hairbands that double as bracelets (I obviously need these badly with my flowing locks!)
– a massage ball for your feet and hands (the Due North Foot Rubz)
– blister shields
– Salt stick caps (basically electrolyte uppers)
– tons of cards for discounted items you will actually use like sunglasses, fitness jewelry, sneakers, etc.
I don’t want to bore you with a complete list of everything but there’s a ton of stuff and a lot of it is name brand like Cliff Bars, Jelly Bean Sport Beans and Quest Bars.
Another perk? About a week after receiving the box, I got an email with more discount codes on some of the other items (like the gorilla-saving bars) in the box. You know I already ordered a dozen.
Here’s some other interesting things:
– You can pick a “runner” box, “triathlete” box or just a good old fashioned “gift” box
– You can mark products on a wish list on the site (http://www.therunnerbox.com)
– Purchase virtual gift cards
– There’s a GLUTEN FREE box for all you wheat haters out there
There’s really nothing left to say or do except to give you this code for your 10% off discount! BOOM!
RUNALLIERB
I’ll leave you with the quote that was stickered onto the inside of my Runnerbox:
Ability is what you are capable of doing.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.
That pretty much says it all. Fuel up my friends!
A word for the lawyers: I paid in full for my Runnerbox bi-monthly subscription and was then selected as a Runnerbox Ambassador by applying to the program. I was given a discount code for my personal use and just realized it expired this past Sunday. Therefore, because I’m a moron, I was given zero compensation for this post.
Have you ever subscribed to an “anything” of the month club? How do you chose your pre-workout meals? What are your favorites to fuel up with?
I love that you used your husband as the guinea pig for this and the Energybits sampling. Now, why didn’t I think of that when I had to review Energybits! Seriously though thanks for haring and have a great weekend now!! 🙂
Of course I do! Ha ha ha!! Thanks Janine. Have a great weekend…
Thanks for the great review, Allie! I’m definitely going to check this out. Looks like a great gift idea for all of the runners in my life, including ME!!
You will LOVE it! Seriously. I have not found even one thing this month that I don’t like! I’m definitely going to be giving some of these to friends. Thanks Nicole!
This box is AMAZING!! You know it’s a win if the food is husband approved! All the other items are great, too! This sounds like so much fun that I just might take up running…maybe! 😀 –Lisa
See that?!! It’s just that good. Thanks Lisa!
Lol at your disclaimer. I can tell I already love this box! The motivational words are so awesome!! I am definitely one of those people that get all overwhelmed with all of the food rules, it really drives me nuts. This box looks like it is full of yummy stuffs! And as long as there is nothing I’m allergic to in there I’m down!! I would definitely need those hair bands that double as bracelets!! I found myself asking for a rubberband at the front desk yesterday smh. Thanks for introducing me to this!!
You will love it!! I’m sure they can work around any allergies you have – they’re super accommodating that way.
People ask me for hairbands all the time too (at they gym, in my classes) so now I’ll have these awesome ones on hand. I’ll have to be selective about who I give them too – ha ha ha!!
Great review! Just make sure you keep those Energybits! I have my latest issue of Runners World so I will have to check it out. I really like the quote..so true! I chose my preworkout meals with what the workout would be. I have a blend of carb/protein before a run and mostly protein before strength training.
Carbs and proteins are key for sure! I just got an email back from the contact at EnergyBits so they’re on the way. And the article about Runnerbox is not in the latest issue with Summer Sanders on the cover but the one BEFORE that! Thanks Kris:-)
No wonder you do so well, I love your attitude.
It’s all in the attitude baby!! Thanks Karen.
Oh this is a great idea! I’ve seen a lot of healthy snack boxes and even signed up for one for awhile but I’ve never seen one geared specifically for runners. How cool!
Me either!! That’s what’s so exciting!! I truly loved everything in the box or I would never write a review or want to become an ambassador. Thanks Britt. I hope you try it or give it as a gift:-)
Been dying to try this and now I have incentive!
You will not be disappointed!! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
You learn something new every day, huh? Today I learned that you like loofah-tasting foods. Oh, I kid! Seriously though, sports jelly beans? Have I landed in heaven?
I think this is very inventive. I’d totally use it all to fuel if I were a runner. Better than going to a store and not knowing what the heck I’m buying.
Ah yes, the sport jelly bean! The catch is that it’s only “good” for you if you’re running for over an hour so…
Although pitiful, I do have pretty bland tastebuds. My husband teases me about it all the time!
I haven’t done a review yet, but when I do, I want it it be as fun as yours was! I am going to look into this for a Hanukkah present for my daughter – I’m struggling with what to get her. She’s an athlete and tries to eat healthy, so this may be just the thing. Thanks Allie!
Thanks so much Dana!! I really hope you get this for your daughter because I would love to hear what she thinks. It’s really the perfect gift for a runner or anyone who seriously trains for any sport or activity.
Sounds like an amazing box of stuff for a great price!
My favorite is your disclaimer – although I would never say you are a moron – just a super busy mom!!!
You can say it, it’s ok. Somewhere along the way “super busy” became “forgetful” which is sadly now down to “moronic.” Ah motherhood!
Congratulations on becoming an ambassador. I LOVE box subscriptions! They are so fun! It’s like Xmas each month. Super cool that you have one with goodies from your favorite form of exercise.
That’s such a great way to put it! I totally felt like I was 5 on Christmas morning when I was opening the box…and I wasn’t disappointed! Thanks Joi!!
This is really cool! I like the fact that you can sign up for just one box to try out or give as a gift too. Thanks for sharing!
Options are always a good thing!! Thanks.
Genius idea! And btw – Garuka Bars are insanely delicious.
I can’t believe you know about those bars!? I had never heard of them and OMG they are so good!
OOO That’s FUN! It gives you more than just food!!! I cannot subscribe to any of these boxes because I cannot eat 1/2 of the foods that they send, but the fact that they send headbands and other nick nacks make me more inclined to want to do it! 😀
I want to do a seafood of the month club, LOL!
Seafood of the month club would get very interesting awfully fast! I like the way you think.
I have been trying (somewhat) to get back into running for YEARS! I could run to the mailbox for the box you just described. I would like that, so would my butt – or rather my jeans 🙂 I’m going to give at least one box a try and see if it helps to motivate me a little…thanks for the heads up!
I know, right? It’s worth a try. If you order, you have to come back and let me know what you think!
Wow, this looks amazing! I’ve tried other monthly subscription boxes, but have never seen one made just for runners. What a fun idea!
I know!! I was so happy to find it AND the food is actually good, plus you get little extras too. It’s really fun to open and try them all out.
Thanks for stopping by and reading!
There are very few boxes that I like because there is too much crap in most of them. I don’t like gels, pills, powders, etc.
The garakubars are seriously tasty! Love those!
I hear you! I recently discovered Chomps (which are like gummy bears) to eat on long runs b/c I hate GU. You’re the second person to say they love those Garakubars. I had never heard of them!!
This sounds like the coolest box!!! Wonder if they ship to Canada? Love your disclaimer!!
I’m sure they spread the love to our neighbors in the North!! Thanks Leah:-)
Great and funny review! Sounds like a good fuel and just in case box for runners. You are so right being fuelled up correctly is so important. I subscribe to graze.com for their delicious snack boxes, which are ideally suited for my pre and post workout snacks, can I tempt you to check them out 🙂
Fitnessbuster supporting you in improving your fitness and nutrition.
I can always be tempted to check out new foods!! Thanks for that!
I love the idea of subscription boxes. I only subscribe to one and it’s Birchbox. Skincare is my big guilty pleasure and I love trying great stuff for only $10 a month! But this one looks fantastic and right up my alley. Great stuff to fuel up with or recover with after my speed drills 🙂
I love hearing about all these other great boxes!! Thanks Ilene. You’re a great spokesperson for that – you have beautiful skin.
Keep up the good work on those speed drills my friend:-)
Oh wow how neat and how lovely!
I wish there’s more offers like this available here in Indonesia. The only thing came close would be a sample subscription for make-ups that I was offered to join – but politely declined.
New follower here 🙂
Welcome! I would think a lot of things are hard to come by in Indonesia? Maybe I’m wrong! I’ll have to check out your site. Thanks for reading and commenting!!
