I’m feeling pretty full these days. Not from food, in fact I can’t eat enough, but from training, cooking, family, friends andΒ snow. So much snow.
I didn’t say the fullness was all good, it’s just full.
Maybe I’m feeling hopeFUL because I’m going to see the sun and feel it’s warmth when I get the hell out of dodge on Wednesday and book it to Vegas forΒ my BIL’s 40th birthday. We celebrate big in this family and I love it. Fill me up! (that one is for the bartender…)
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 16, 2015
RUNNING: I ran outside twiceΒ last week. That filled me with so much happiness, I cannot even tell you. I ran 40 miles on a treadmill the week before thatΒ and, even though my tears instantly froze on my face and I couldn’t feel my toes for about 7 minutes, it was 100,000 times better then being on the treadmill. Maybe 200,000 times.
I also had an amazing indoor track workout. I’m so thankful I have one to get 6 x 800s done in 3:10 flat.
I made it outside for my long run of 16 miles on Saturday. It was a balmy 20 degrees. I almost broke out the shorts. I ran the first 8 miles with two friends before picking up the pace for the second 8. That way, I was able to run negative splits with an overall pace of 8:00 min miles. My legs were definitely tired but I felt strong and ready to go again on Sunday!
Total miles:Β 44 (with 22 outside!)
CYCLING: Due to being buried under snow, I hadn’t taught my spin class since January 16th! I was finally able to get back in the saddle (totally did that on purpose!) and had a great class. I did one other tough bike workout on Friday, just for good measure. If I’m barely able to runΒ outside, I don’t even want to think about how long it will be until I canΒ rideΒ outside! #DreamOn
Total cycling miles: 44 (interesting that this matches my running mileage!)
SWIMMING: I was only able to get one pool workout in this week. Guess why? SNOW! The swim I was able to do was fantastic and after runningΒ 6 miles outside. The pool never felt so warm!
Total yards: 2400
Here’s what my week looks like in Training Peaks, the software I use with CRS:
FUEL: Mini eggs and anything with salt since, after my track workout I noticed this on my neck:
I’m hoping that salted caramel counts. I’m sure it does.
I’ve also still been cooking away with my Blue Apron meals. Culinary marvelsΒ I have never before attempted includeΒ poaching chicken, mincing, chopping and roasting vegetables I’ve never heard of or cannot pronounce. I even made orange beefΒ lo mien like I worked at a Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately my house also smelled like oneΒ for 3 days after. It was totally worth it. #FillingMeUp
THINGS I LOVE: Technology! So I’ve been doing two hour training sessions, four days a week and my playlists are getting beyond old and boring.Β When I have a particularly lengthy program design from my coach, I keep my phone poised between my bike handle bars so I can see what my next mission is. During one such sweat fest,Β this happened:
Thank you Flo Rida for getting down for real!
THINGS I DON’T LOVE AS MUCH:Β Ok, I know this is super obvious but I cannot take much more of this snow. The weathermen cannot even predict it anymore. Saturday night we had dinner plans to celebrate my other BIL’s birthday. Three to six inches was predicted (which is laughable at this point) and it started snowing around 2:30pm. A Β lot. First the sitter cancelled, my dad and stepmom came to the rescue with the kids, we got to the highway and turned around because the roads were so bad. And I have an SUV with 4-wheel drive. Night ruined, once again, because of this weather. And it was still snowing the next morning for a total of about eight more inches. We’re getting buried alive over here!
There’s yet more snow predicted for Wednesday when we’re supposed to fly out to Las Vegas via Philly.Β The only question is how many xanax is it going to take to get me on the plane? #filledwithprescriptionmeds
TV: Did someone say Oscar? I’m sure someone did but I would have to be awake to hear it. I did see Patricia Arquette’s acceptance speech.Β Loved it. Fell asleep.
MUSIC: Missy Elliott. Ever since her performance during the Super Bowl I have been all over her music. This classic came on the radio one day and I took a pic of it so I wouldn’t forget to download it. Fill me up with your badass self Missy!
RANDOM QUOTE OF THE WEEK:Β “Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.” –Β Winston ChurchillΒ
How was your week?
What is filling you up these days?
How’s the weather where you are and, if you can see the sun, can I visit you?
My cups (and everything else that holds anything) runneth over with snow. I hate it. I’m over it. I’m getting angry. It’s not good. But I did just see that RTB posted your video from last year again. So nice to see your smiling face! I still can’t believe that we didn’t meet!!’
We are absolutely meeting up this summer! It has to be done and it has to be done when it’s warm!!
Objectively it seems like you have been really busy and I could not be happier for you. I think the balance is key and if you are happy doing what you are doing then that is awesome.
I hate the snow and I’m over this winter in general honestly. February kicked my rear end so I’m happy to be saying goodbye.
Arizona and Nevada are calling us!!! I cannot wait to get out of all this snow!
Not as much snow here but still enough for my liking and just wish it was spring already, but the again I hate the winter and this time of the year as you know. And I also didn’t watch the Oscars, but sure I will get an update on my Facebook feed today to get caught up to speed.
I like to just get the Oscar recap too. So much less time consuming!
I love that FloRida song and pretty much anything by Missy!! The snow is so disrespectful doesn’t Mother Nature understand how serious training outside is??? I hope you get out of CT on Wednesday. You deserve it! You will be totally fine on the plane too, don’t you worry! Great work last week too! 20 degrees? Balmy? Oy vey.
That is where my threshold is at this point – anything about 20 feels warm. Clearly I need to get out of here! No more snow in the forecast so I am good to go!! Thanks Nellie and I cannot wait to read all about your adventures with a certain mouse this past weekend. The pictures are so GREAT!!
Now that’s a lot of snow! In Richmond we got 6+ inches and we were shut down all week! 40 miles on a treadmill… even I think that’s crazy and I love my treadmill runs. You are my idol. Can we train together?
Yes, yes, and hell yes. And um, that was 40 miles over the course of a week. I’m sure my superstar status has now been lowered but hope we can still train together π
Isn’t it amazing how 20 now feels warm. I loved my runs this weekend as it was 20 degrees without wind and I could actually run my entire run on the cement without doing tiny loops! It was amazing….guess it puts things in perspective huh? So glad you got your long run outside this weekend, and hopefully the snow lets up soon! Stay positive lady, you can do it π
Definitely trying to stay positive which is why this trip could not come at a better time! I just need a few days of sun and I’ll be good as new π
I can’t take much more of this snow. Although, I did enjoy a week of snow days and no work. Yoga and creating recipes is filling me up π
I too have been cooking like crazy which is definitely a plus!
I’m so glad you are flying out this week–I hope it is warm and sunny every day you are there and that you get to enjoy some runs in shorts/singlet. What an insane winter for you guys!
Your training is rocking in spite of the weather, though–it will pay off come spring! Nice long run, too.
What’s filling me up? Napa in four days. A wine tasting tour via limo the day after the marathon. Yes!
YES to getting out of town (for both of us) and reaping some of the benefits of all this training. I cannot wait to run around Vegas in nothing but short shorts and a singlet…and hopefully I’ll get some training in too π
You are getting in some awesome running mileage on top of everything else- impressive! And that snow- ugh, I hear you. I’m really HAVE to get outside next weekend for my 20!
Absolutely. No one should have to do 20 indoors!! Good luck. I’ll be watching the weather…
I’m up to here with the school delays and closing for freaking COLD temps. Seriously, these people down here in VA are p#@y’s. You are rocking the runs in the freezing cold though, I dont know how you do that! Have a great time in Vegas!! Are you going without the kids??
HAHAHAHAHA OMG you are too funny! I love it.
I wouldn’t be this excited if I were bringing the kids. No kids allowed in Vegas. Ever.
I agree, except my MIL lives in Vegas and we are going in November to visit….at least I get to run Rock N Roll Vegas while I’m out there though, but you better believe the kids will not go to the strip to see it!
Oy… I hope that snow melts soon. We’re supposed to get some tonight and tomorrow, but absolutely nothing close to that!
That quote… OMG. Perfect for today.
So glad that quote is relatable to your day and I’m sure you pulled it off beautifully π
I am done with this winter and I can’t really complain because NYC hasn’t been hit that badly with the snow. I am just sick of deciding between being indoors with a toddler or braving runny noses, coldness-related tantrums and icy paths for playground trips. And that’s just when I’m on mama duty. Commuting by foot to clients is getting ridiculous.
I hope the trip to Vegas is easy and drama free and you guys have a fabulous time!!
I cannot imagine living in the city though all of this! My only comfort is hot coffee and the seat warmer in my car, which I spend about half my time in. Keep on keeping on mama. We’re almost there!!
That is an awesome training week and way to nail the 800’s and the long run!!!!! Great job! I got in my speed run and a Wed run but then it was sickness for me. :(. I had to take Thurs-Sun off, but am hitting up the treadmill today! I am so done with winter and we have not even had it as bad as you. We did get 8 inches on Sat and this week is supposed to be pretty cold. I REALLY want to run in shorts!!! My sister did the Disney princess half and I am sort of oozing jealousy :).
I hear you! So sorry you were sick – that’s even worse then snow and freezing temps. And, I’ve almost had it with FB and all the pictures of sun and sand and Disney runs. Totally jealous!!
Lucky you, getting outside to run seems to be a luxury these days. I did get out on Sunday but man, did the wind have a bite to it. Still better than the mill for sure! I think we are all getting a little depressed with the weather. You still had a great week! So jealous that you’re going someplace warm this week! Have fun!
Oh the wind was a killer, especially on this one never ending road!! I have to yell directly into it. It makes me feel better π Hopefully there’s no wind in Vegas!
Gahhhh I feel your pain, I am NOT a fan of the snow! Luckily living in Cali now, I don’t have to deal with any of it. Have fun in Vegas! You should make a pit stop in San Diego to enjoy the sunshine some more before you head back to your wintry weather! π
Oh how I wish I could just take a quick jaunt down to San Diego! It’s so gorgeous there and I haven’t been in years. Enjoy every bit of it and never get tired of the nice weather π
I’ve had my fill of snow too. We visited American University on Saturday, which is 50 minutes from our house. It started snowing while we were there, and it took us 3.5 hours to get home. It was excruciating! Can I get in your suitcase and come to Vegas with you?
YES!!!
There is almost nothing worse then getting caught in your car during a storm. #roadrage
I had my fill of snow in November when we got that weird snow that nearly canceled our Thanksgiving! Ahhh!
Have so much fun in Vegas! What does salt on your neck mean? Do I need to Google this?
You are too funny Tamara! I was just sweating out salt. Isn’t it crazy that your body does that? It’s usually only that visible in the summer…but that indoor track session did the trick too. Don’t worry, I put it all back in!!
Dang y’all have a lot of snow!! Pretty sure there is no snow in Vegas – have a super time!!!
I could feel the salt crusted on me today when I finished my 4+ hour run – sort of gross!!!
It is pretty gross!! There had better not be any snow in Vegas or I will cry!
Congrats on an amazing week. You fit so much in with everything you’ve got going on and the weather. Nice track workout too! Boom! xo
The track workout felt amazing and I swear it’s because I didn’t have so many layers on!
I just can’t get over all that snow.
OMG so.much.snow. I’m so glad that you are flying out to Vegas this week. Have so much fun there! The sunshine really does do us good. I did not want to come home from San Francisco. Soak it up and bring some back to the east coast please!
I will do my best! I’m seriously hoping that at least some of the snow is melted by the time we get back. I can’t take much more of living in snow tunnels!
