Just when I was really starting to get used to the crazy wild animals and carrying a knife in my flip belt, it was time to go home.
I dare say I will miss the hills.
I will not miss being scared shitless every time I headed out for an early morning run or singing “La la la la la la, sing a happy song!” at the top of my lungs like a lunatic when treading though some particularly remote area.
WEEK OF AUGUST 3, 2015
RUNNING: I have to admit I was savoring my last week of running in the wild. I was just getting used to all my running routes, where the hills are, where the really big hills are, where the port-o-pottys are and how I could best manage my splits. I will miss the views the most but I will take them with me and pull them back out whenever I need them.
Total miles: 28
CYCLING: There is a ride I want to do just one more time! Ok, I want to do at least once a week for the rest of my life. When I think about the bike/swim/bike I did last Monday, I just want to do it again and again. I started at the boy’s day camp, rode 12 miles to the spot in the lake where the lap lanes are, swam for 20 minutes and then rode back. It’s a day I won’t soon forget.
Total miles: 50
SWIMMING: I think I may cry the first time I have to swim at the YMCA pool this week. I seriously cannot believe how much I’ve come to love swimming in open water…well, open water that is clean and void of fish. For all the insane wildlife I saw on land, I barely saw any fish whatsoever when I was swimming, save for minnows. Figure that out.
I have almost three weeks until my next triathlon where I will once again attempt to qualify for nationals by finishing in the top 10 women. I hope all this swimming pays off big!
THINGS I LOVE: My Dad tried SUP for the first time in his long life and loved it! I mean LOVED IT. He was on Amazon on the car ride home pricing them out.
If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time then you know my dad is my hero. This is just one of the many reasons why. He’s not afraid to try new things and, if he loves something, he just goes for it and gets it. #NeverStopLearning
THINGS I DON’T LOVE AS MUCH: Kids puking at a restaurant, especially when it’s my kid. Ugh. Apparently Vaughn exceeded his chocolate milk quota for the day the moment we sat down to eat at a nice, waterside restaurant. You don’t want to know what the ducks did. #Grossout #WeAreNeverGoingBackThere #SoSorry
READING: I cannot believe I finished three entire, 300+ page books while I was in New Hampshire. That, to me, is heaven and something that will not be duplicated in the near future. I’m looking forward to getting back to reading all my favorite blogs, all my favorite online media sites and this one in particular:
Thanks for the health and fitness web find ValentineRD!
And, to all my non-running mom friends, this is why we hang out, right? I express my love for you guys (and why you love me) in my latest article for RunHaven…!
RANDOM QUOTE OF THE WEEK: While having lunch with my husband one day last week, I saw a guy wearing a T-shirt that read “Bike, Run, Walk” so I said to my husband “What the hell kind of a race is that?” His response:
“I want one that says Walk, Crawl, Sleep.”
How are we still married? Or maybe I should say this is why we’re still married.
It’s good to be home! I’ll be back to my regular blogging schedule (Mon/Wed/Fri) so get your eyeballs ready…
How was your week?
Are you ready for Fall or desperately holding onto summer?
OOOH POOR VAUGHN AND POOR MAMA!!!!
and lucky me 🙂
Im so so so gifting me that OIselle tee
too bad you dont make commission 🙂
I LOVE that you’re getting the shirt!!…and I hope you roller skate in it 🙂
It truly sounds like you have had an incredible time and summer out there. It looks gorgeous to just get away and enjoy yourself. I’m glad you could do that!
It really was! Thanks Hollie.
OMG I’m sure the ducks were in ducky heaven. They have no shame! Love that Oiselle tee. Bummed we didn’t get to meet up but it will make October even better. Glad you enjoyed NH!
No they don’t! OMG so disgusting.
I really had such a great time in NH!! I can’t wait to go back…someday…
I love that tee!!! I know you are going to miss that beautiful open water, I already miss it for you!! But I’m so happy you don’t have to run around with knives anymore. Yikes.
Poor Vaughn!! I would have been freaking out. Pure hysteria while my husband tried to fix it and boy I DONT want to know what the ducks did. But hello? It’s a six year old. They puke sometimes. My eldest had to just out of his swimming lesson on Saturday because he was afraid he was gonna puke!! Omg
LOL seriously! I was so happy to run today with no weapons 🙂
Just when you think you’re done with the puke stage, it happens again. At least we got him over a railing and onto the grass in time. Ugh.
Welcome back! And I will prepare you now…that first pool swim will suck. I did mine this week and hated it.
I’m so glad you had this time away. What a great way to spend summer. All except the puking part! You’re going to be locked and loaded for the tri.
My kids go back in two weeks..I’m sad, as always. Summer rules.
I was in today and it was truly awful. The only saving grace is my waterfi headphones!
I’m so sad too – summer is the best time of year hands down!!
Welcome home! I am so not prepared for the child throw up stage. It grosses me out so much! And I have anxiety over public sickness. I assume this is something I will have to get over!
It’s truly disgusting and Miles tends to puke when he sees someone else do it (especially his twin!) so he actually ran out of the restaurant when it happened! Luckily we had many adults to help out. Get ready Brittany because it just never ends with kids!! 🙂
Glad you are back safe!! I love your dad doing SUP…..so great. Took my dad to his first 45 minute spin class on his 69th birthday, and when it was done, he said he could have done it for another hour:)
My kids are back in school tomorrow….YAY!!
Sounds like our dads should get together and workout! That is truly awesome 🙂
Your kids start tomorrow? WOW! Gotta love that.
Wow what a marvelous experience you’re having, I love your pops too! I’m not ready for summer to quit yet but am excited for cooler temps… For running. Priorities of course lol.
Of course!! Today was so nice and cool here until about noon and I have to say, it was pretty nice. Enjoy it!
Welcome back! I hear you on being sad to leave vacation – we just got back from a weekend with college friends in Wisconsin and both the husband and I are not ready for normal work! I’m super excited about fall, though, it’s my favorite season!
My re-entry has been harsh. I’m hoping things improve as the week progresses!
Thanks Laura 🙂
Welcome home!! Sounds like such a wonderful vacation and 3 books? That sounds like heaven.
My Mom tried SUP for the first time in Lake Tahoe this summer – it was so fun to do it with her!! I love that your Dad is up for anything! 🙂
Totally cracking up about the singing in the woods – I can totally relate 🙂
I’m now part of the Oiselle team (whoop!) so I’ll have to get that shirt!!
Can’t even think about kids puking… can’t….
xoxox
Welcome to Oiselle!!!!! That is great Natalie!
So glad you had the same SUP experience with your mom – so fun!!
And no, no one wants to think about it or see it or anything else. Just no.
It sounds like you’ve had some awesome workouts in the wild lately! And way to go for your dad and his new SUP hobby! I just tried SUP for the first time a few weeks ago and really liked it too.
I’m sure he will have a SUP by the weekend and I can’t wait to do it again 🙂 Thanks Nicole!
Yet looks like you had such an amazing time… Ok, well minus the restaurant puking :o! We just got to northern WI for a week in the wilds!!! I am desperately holding on to summer, but I will say these 70 degree temps in WI feel great!!!
Your dad is so cute and I love the picture of you and your boys :).
Thanks Jen and YES the cooler temps in the morning especially are fantastic. I don’t mind the 80s but 90s – I’m all set!
Have a fantastic time in WI and don’t forget to pick up a cheesehead while you’re there 🙂 GO PACK GO!
Looks like your time on Winnepesaukee was incredible especially the bike/swim/bike. Funny enough we had a too much milk/puke incident at a restaurant too last week . . . I will spare you any other details. Hope you had a safe trip home!
Oh no!!!!! At least we can commiserate 🙂 Hope you have a puke-less week this week!
Oh no! Puke is the worst….it’s the one bodily fluid that I’m deathly afraid of at work and even more so at home. So sorry you had to endure that. Sounds like an amazing month!!Welcome back to the grind 🙂
I can’t believe, with all you must see, that you hate puke!? That is funny.
Yep, it’s grind all right but I’m slowly getting back into it.
Thanks Sue!
I am ready for fall weather, but I would like school to hold off for awhile. Sports tryouts are this week, orientation next week…ugh.
So what books did you read?
Ugh is right!
Elizabeth is Missing
Mean Streak
California
I think I liked Mean Streak best because the main character is a runner 🙂 but the story is thrilling!!
