A lot of things are making me say “what the hell?” lately, and doing a little research for a possible MLK post was no different. I knew I didn’t want to post the usual rundown today in observance of the holiday. As holidays go, I believe this one is actually very important, so I started looking up some articles on the man, the myth, the legend – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I barely got through the very first one when I read this:
“It wasn’t until the year 2000 that all 50 states officially observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The last states to join up where Arizona in 1992, New Hampshire in 1999, and Utah in 2000. The holiday itself was originally signed into federal law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, with the first MLK holiday on January 20, 1986.”
To which I have to say “What the hell Arizona, New Hampshire and Utah?” Did you also not let women vote or run in marathons because it might hurt their birthing hips? #sad
With that in mind, here are some other things (not related to MLK Day) that make me question my world:
Labeling Socks – Do we really need little L’s and R’s on running socks? When did this trend start and how do I make it stop? Are you seriously trying to tell me that, all of a sudden, it matters which foot you put your sock on? Come on! The only reason I even care is because every time, without fail, I put the one marked “L” on my right foot. And, because I’m crazy, I have to switch it. WTH?
I found a chat site titled “The dire consequences of putting your Left running sock on your Right foot!”
I like what this guy said: These sock manufacturers are trying to trigger OCD in people with this shit…like “oh I lost the R sock so I guess I’ll have to throw out the L”. Or better yet the pack of socks with a different accent color for EACH PAIR! I’m tired of their attempts at getting me to buy more socks.
Of course someone else chimed in with this: Look, you guys. Before 1822, people didn’t realize the need for having left and right shoes either. You just wait 🙂
Serial The Podcast – By now you’ve probably heard of this already. I know because I’m usually the very last person to pick up on a trends, let alone a podcast trend. I have never listened to a podcast or book while I was running and holy crap have I been missing out! Without giving anything away, I will say that if you listen while running in a heavily wooded area, you may have to continually remind yourself that no one is going to try to kill you and bury your body in a shallow grave. On the bright side, it will make you run faster!
DILFs – Have you heard of this? In case you’re not aware of the acronym it’s ‘Dad’s I’d Like To F**k.’ I wasn’t even aware that MILFs had some sort of male equals but what is really disturbing is that there’s an Instagram account dedicated to DILFs at Disneyland. Disneyland people! Holding children. What the hell is sexy about that? The account has over 200,000 followers. I have just over 500. WTH?
And no, I’m not linking to that account you sick-o, but here’s the link to MINE.

Creepy

I could go on and on, and tell you about the woman who got drunk on vanilla extract and couldn’t find her way out of a Walmart parking lot but, on this day, maybe we should get back to dreaming of a better world…
Share your WTH of the weekend!
What do you think about labeling socks?
Are you one of the DILF Disneyland Instagram followers?
Too much here that I am shaking my head to especially that Instagram account the left me for once pretty much speechless, which doesn’t happen very often here to be quite honest!!
Same thing happened to me. It boggles the mind. I mean, I get the DILF part…just not baby holding in Disneyland!
Wait what? You have just slammed me with the crazy train and I have no idea how to recover. Left and right socks? That would make me bonkers. I like that I don’t have to think when it comes to socks. I have literally put on socks in the middle of my sleep so no thanks I will stick to unlabeled socks!! dilf? I think I’ve heard of this before unfortunately the follower count doesn’t surprise me, women are just as thirsty as men they are just better at hiding it. Also the Walmart thing doesn’t surprise me either one time I saw on dr. Phil some lady that was getting drunk daily on hand sanitizer. Say what now? I just can’t with all the stupid.
You didn’t know what you were getting into this morning, did you?? Hahahaha!!! But hand sanitizer?? How can you even drink that and survive? Holy wow.
WTF to all of this! The socks is super obsessive because I buy one large pack and once they get washed, it’s over! Is that just a runner’s sock issue! The Disneyland daddy fu*ks, no thanks!
I’m pretty sure it’s just a running sock issue but I’m sure it will conquer ALL socks pretty soon!!
This post made me laugh out loud. I agree with the MLK-that’s way later than I thought it had been made a full national holiday! Also just YESTERDAY I accidentally put my Nike socks on with the “correct” R or L socks on the wrong feet. I had to change it just so I could correctly see the L and R staring at me. Does it really matter though? The only thing it’s good for is matching socks after I do laundry Serial is SO good. It’s cool because it’s based on MD so it’s a local news issue here!
Glad I could give you a laugh and also glad I’m not the only type A to have to change the socks to the correct feet!! Serial is awesome and OMG yes, all about Baltimore and the surrounding area – how cool and/or creepy for you 🙂
Good points! I haven’t seen L & R on my running socks but I knew they existed. I still don’t think it matters. DILF’s on the other hand is totally new to me. So weird!
Very weird and stay away from the sock labels if you can!! 🙂
I’m sorry, I loled so hard at this line:
Did you also not let women vote or run in marathons because it might hurt their birthing hips? #sad
But I completely agree. Interesting post and I certainly agree.
It makes me so happy that I can contribute some LOLZ to you 🙂
I honestly don’t even know what to say about the DILFs. Only a man would call himself that and post on Instagram. Unbelievable!
Hahaha SO true!
HaHa – we were pretty much on the same train of thought today!! I’ve never heard of DILF – pass!!
And, I still haven’t ever listened to a podcast – I’m lame but….
I think it is important that Martin Luther King day is observed – I love that even our schools are closed today:)
I’m glad Kansas is on board the sane train! It’s a very important holiday and I love all the questions my kids had about it.
Not lame at all but podcasts can be so interesting! Who knew? Apparently not us!
I just found out about New Hampshire and MLK day! I’m very embarrassed about my state (along with a few other things). My exact words when my husband told me that last night – WTF?? And the DILF’s? That’s just wrong at Disneyland!
I immediately thought of you and Sarah Canney and was like “do they know???” Crazy. And speaking of crazy…the DILF thing is beyond insane.
I’m totally with you on the sock thing, I don’t get it. I have never listened to a book or a podcast either and I keep hearing about this serial podcast too. If I was on the treadmill I don’t think I could do it because I need something to look at. Not sure about the long run either because I usually run with my group and don’t think I could focus enough!
Oh no, you have to focus on what’s being said, and there are a lot of details. I had no problem on my long run but, oddly enough, it was harder on the treadmill. I think it’s because of where the treadmills are at my gym, and I can see everyone coming and going – too distracting – but I’m still listening!
This post was an awesome way to start my day! DILF? WTH?!
I can’t take the pressure! Serial is everywhere! I have never listened to Serial but you’ve convinced me to check it out.
I’m so glad I could kick off your day with a bang 🙂 And yes, give into the pressure already – you’ll be glad you did!!
Ummm I’m not sure which one to pick. But I think the SOCK. Thing is crazy — and so stessful bcs you know one of those socks is going to magically get kidnapped somewhere and you’ll just have the one leftover who can now only be paired with another soulmate instead of the leftover sock who avoided last week’s kidnapping. I can’t take all the socks that disappear in my house and now I have to be concerned about left and right???! But the topper of your post was the DILF thing. Disney?????!!!!!
I think it’s a conspiracy by the running sock companies to have you buy more $18 pairs of socks!! And the DILF thing just totally threw me. I just can’t.
hahaha! I want to dream of a better world. The vanilla extract one.. makes it hard. Did it happen in Florida? Florida gets the best news sometimes.
And by best, I mean worst.
And why label socks? Sounds like marketing to me personally!
Florida is an excellent guess but it was actually upstate NY – Seneca Falls to be exact. Cray cray.
Lol I like the labeling of socks, makes it easier on me. Expect when all you have are left ones… not sure how that happens!
Exactly!!!!
The DILF phenomenon will have to do without me because I’m married. The thought of some random dude’s junk in my face…wait, this is TMI… delete comment!!!
Deleting…
I just learned so much in this post… whoa. I live in Atlanta, so MLK is a big thing here. It’s weird to me that people worked yesterday!
I’m curious about running to a podcast. It doesn’t slow you down? I feel like I’d get distracted at either forget to run or forget to listen. LOL!
I was worried about that too! Interestingly enough, it’s a lot easier to pay attention and listen when I run outside as opposed to the treadmill. I’ve definitely gotten distracted a few times but mostly it’s riveting!
And yes, pretty sad that MLK isn’t properly observed everywhere!!
I am loving Serial – episode #8. I grew up 20 minutes from where it all took place, but I have no recollection of the murder or trial. Of course, I had a five month old at the time, so I wasn’t up on the local news.
Your sock rant made me laugh – James came into my room last week complaining that I had paired two “left” Nike Elite socks together! To which I responded:
a. It was not me, it was your father (for a change).
b. Do your own laundry.
You’re a little ahead of me. I just finished #6 and I’m SO confused now!!! I thought I had it figured out and then BAM. That’s crazy that you grew up near there and have no memory of it…of course you weren’t inundated with news back then like we are now…
Love the sock drama!!…and jealous your husband does laundry.
Don’t be jealous. He doesn’t do laundry, and he folds it about twice a year. And apparently all wrong.
Ok good. I feel much better now 🙂
If you think I haven’t heard or….. Yeah, with DILFs then you do not know me but at all! LMFAO…. I put my left sock on the right foot and my right sock on the left foot and then I hit up the DILFs of LA… They like a lady in socks, just as long as they don’t have to SOCK “it”…..
BAHHH!
It’s good having you back girl!!! Oh how I’ve missed your comments 🙂
YOU know how to make a girl feel SPECIAL! 😀
AHH YOU KNOW IVE SEEN THE LABELING AND LAUGHED and was sad faced when I couldnt ever figre out which was which 🙂
Total sad face!! I’m going to laugh at my sock labeling from now on 🙂
Haha. I had no idea people hadn’t heard of DILFs. Happy to help educate folks. (I noticed a slight uptick in the DILFs of Disneyland Instagram account. I think some of the commenters protest too much! JK.)
I’m sure you’re right! Hahaha happy we can both spread the word on DILFs 🙂
Hehehe, NO I am NOT one of the DILF IG followers, but I do follow you on there! 🙂
WTH is right about that vanilla extract story! Thanks for bringing that weirdness to my attention. I like how in the article a drug counselor says that vanilla extract is just like any vanilla drink and no one would know the difference…. as a foodie who bakes often, I say WHAT?!! Vanilla extract is WAY stronger than, say, a vanilla coke. I couldn’t take a sip of that without gagging. WTH was she doing drinking bottles of it in a food store?! Cray-cray.
I know, right? That is insane. That woman is insane and I hope this doesn’t cause a bunch of teenagers to start chugging vanilla extract!
That Disneyland DILF thing is seriously creepy. I am so happy you’re deep in Serial. PLEASE email me when you finish the last episode so we can discuss.
I absolutely will although I think we may need a phone call!! I’m only on episode 6 or 7 and I’m SO, SO confused! Sometimes I’m positive he didn’t do it and then…I waiver. UGH, the agony of it all!!
